Bucolic Artic

This is a mini-series of two illustrations I called Bucolic Arctic. It started as an excuse to test a set of granulating paints by Schmincke — a muted, icy trio.

I’m not used to working with such a limited palette, so it felt like a challenge — but also a discovery. I wanted to create scenes that still felt like me, even if the setting was an arctic glacier. So I imagined little penguin families growing winter flowers and walking with bears.

This series showed me that even the coldest landscapes can feel poetic.

I also shared this process in a video earlier this year.
